Ustad Shafaat Khan will present an energetic, engaging, and educational performance featuring the rich traditions of Indian Classical and Folk music.

In addition to the performance, he will guide audiences through the history and cultural significance of Indian music, introducing the concepts of Raag, Taal, traditional instruments, and performance techniques. The program includes selections that showcase Indian Classical music as well as lighter musical forms such as Qawwali, Ghazal, and Thumri, offering listeners a diverse and captivating musical experience.

Ustad Shafaat Khan

Ustad Shafaat Khan's career is nothing short of extraordinary. He debuted at the Kings Lynn Festival opened by the Queen of England. The son of Ustad Imrat Khan and nephew of Ustad Vilayat Khan, he has graced the stages of prestigious concert halls, festivals, and universities across India, the U.S., Europe, China, Russia, and Japan. He has performed alongside legends like Stevie Wonder at Bonnaroo and shared a televised concert with Ray Charles in Germany.

Daniel Johnson : tabla/percussion/vox

Daniel’s path in Music has been a journey from the pounding percussive energy of performing with Philadelphia’s 20 member Spoken Hand Percussion Orchestra, to the Freedom and Vibe of performing with Miles Davis alum’s Badal Roy’s “Dharma Jazz” to the intense depth of Tabla player to North Indian Classical Sitar legend Ustad Shafaat Khan. These and many more projects including being a percussionist at Princeton University for the department of Modern Dance have kept him moving further into subtle pulsation.
